Bersu Ekinci
Bersu Ekinci’s interest in etiquette, the rules of elegance, social behaviour and communication began at a very young age.
As she watched films shot in different countries, certain details in the actors’ behaviour never escaped her attention. The contrasts, or rather the distinct character, in the behaviour of these characters, each reflecting the culture of another country, truly fascinated her.
Not only films but also her travels fuelled this curiosity. Especially during her years of study in England, cultural differences and the way they shape social relationships and behaviour became an even more fascinating subject for her.
From there, she became more curious than ever about how people from different nations can communicate well with one another.
HER INTEREST GREW AS SHE TRAVELLED THE WORLD
In 2007 she completed her postgraduate studies in Communication in Culture and Media at Manchester Metropolitan University. Building on this, she collaborated with international agencies, founded her own media agency and began working with many international agencies, above all in the USA, the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Russia.
The international agencies and representatives she worked with, as well as everyone she met on her travels, drew her ever more to the cultural differences between countries.
Then she thought: “Since I am so interested in this subject, and my work and relationships require it anyway, why not train to master it?”
She wasted no time and trained at the International Etiquette & Protocol Academy of London.
EVERY COUNTRY HAS ITS OWN KEYS TO COURTESY AND GOOD COMMUNICATION
During her training in London, she realised that etiquette is not limited to behaviour in society; it also covers business life.
Mastering etiquette directly affects success, not only on a human level but also in business. The UK, France, Japan and Qatar, for example, lie in very different parts of the world and have entirely different histories and cultural values.
If you want to host a dinner in these countries, every detail, from setting the table to behaviour during the meal, varies greatly. A gesture considered polite in one country can raise eyebrows in another.
