The Art of Clear and Effective Communication
What is communication? This word, which we use so often, comes from the Latin communico, meaning “to share and to make common.” More broadly, communication is founded on people expressing themselves and understanding one another.
Looking more closely, communication is a human need, just like eating, drinking and sleeping. Just as we need to know how to eat healthily, we need to know how to communicate in a healthy way: to express ourselves well and to try to understand others correctly.
In our Clear and Effective Communication courses we aim to teach the finer points of this subject. Although it may seem easy at first, good communication is vital, not only in family relationships and social life but also at work. Otherwise it is impossible to express ourselves properly or to understand those who speak to us.
In short, the better you express yourself, in other words the more clearly and healthily you communicate with people, the more successful you will be in your social relationships and in business.
The words you choose, your emphasis and even your body language are an important part of this.
In our Clear and Effective Communication training we carry out a series of exercises on all of this.
But first, let us look at what people who communicate successfully in social and professional life have in common:
- They are able to express themselves effectively
- They know that physical appearance is the first step of their image
- They pay attention to body language when communicating
- They have effective ways of dealing with opposing views
- They are able to persuade those who think differently or are undecided
- Their self-confidence is complete and healthy
- They focus on results at every step and move confidently towards their goals
There is, of course, no single method of communication. There are many ways to express yourself, listen to others and empathise.
In our programme we will cover all of these separately and in detail:
- The art of verbal communication
- The finer points of written communication
- Using body language correctly while communicating
Here is a summary of the topics we focus on in the Clear and Effective Communication programme:
- The habit of listening to people properly
- The finer points of empathising with others
- Being kind and choosing effective words when giving criticism
- Setting aside prejudices when communicating
- Being as open as necessary while communicating
- Key tips for managing anger in tense moments
What else does the programme focus on?
In summary:
- The goal we want to achieve in communication
- The setting in which communication takes place
- The personal characteristics of those involved
- The order of each side’s needs
- The mental stages to be aware of during communication
- Expectations before communication
- Mistakes to avoid when trying to persuade the other side
